This podcast is all about the role of being a caregiver: what situations put us in this role, who is finding themselves doing the bulk of caregiving, why does caregiving feel different in this era, and what can we do to support caregivers? Barbara is a practical, heartfull end-of-life educator, and when you combine her wisdom with my curiosity – it’s a good listen! As Barbara says, “I think we need to shine light on caregivers” as they are “the invisible hero in the whole scenario.”

Thank you for this discussion. A topic for another day might be about including the patient in the caregiver process. Many times the patient is capable & desirous of contributing in some small ways (such as folding laundry) but is actually denied the opportunity to be useful. The lack of purpose is harmful to the patient and contributes to decline both physically & mentally.

I learn so much from Barbara. There is always a great tidbit or 10 in each presentation she does. This podcast reinforced my belief in conversations early, before events happen. Having the conversation about “what to do if” with mom or dad before they are in need of care. It’s best if all involved are part of the famliy conversation. Thanks, Barbara, for always guiding me.

hi Maureen, thanks for the kind words about my work. The more we know, the better we’ll do when it come to end of life—-I guess that applys to all of living not just end of life. Blessings! Barbara
