The Tree of Life: End of Life Education, A Coloring Booklet and Family Tree
This end of life coloring book is used as art therapy for both adults and children. The Tree of Life provides a concept of death using the metaphor of nature and the cycle of life. (This booklet includes a family tree).
Poems and art often take us to places the rational mind can’t go. Poems about death and the grieving process can help grieving adults and children begin to neutralize some of the fear and cultural misconceptions most of us have concerning dying and death.
Engaging with a person through this coloring activity, we can simply and compassionately begin our conversation about the final good-bye. The child in all of us can relate to these images as we are looking for meaning and comfort in the stages of grief.
No matter the age of the reader, it can bring understanding and reassurance to us when we or a loved one is on hospice and journeying into the stages of death. The Tree of Life is simple yet profound and consoling.

Tree of Life coloring Book
I lost my beloved husband on June 28, 2021 and I chose this particular coloring book for my six-year-old grandson to illustrate to him that he is surrounded by a family that loves him and that we all will always remember the special relationship he had with his Pampaw. I can only live one day at a time because I am really struggling.
Excelent material to help those with end of life issues
As a Hospice volunteer, I meet with patients and their family, and even my own friends during difficult times to help ease their fear and desperation. The books help me and them to read and re-read what we discuss. Making it an easier and a conscious transition for all. Highly recommend these booklets--
Standing Upon the Seashore
I will use the coloring book for my great nephews....their grandma is terminal with cancer and they are very close to her. We used the Standing Upon the Seashore when my parents died....I read it often and find it very comforting....a visual image that helped us see them off.
I have used Barbara Karnes
I have used Barbara Karnes books for years, as a Parish Nurse, Hospice volunteer and now as a retired nurse practitioner. My husband ( was a family practice physician) and we bought them for support groups and many friends. I am constantly looking for new info. to help me get the "word out." They are easy to understand and give people valuable information whether they want it or not.
