The book you need!

I am a hospice aid and I love my job. I bought this book to help me take even better care of my patients. I definitely got a LOT out of this book! It is a wonderful book for patient, family, caregivers, and hospice workers. Barbara (once again) did an amazing job putting all the information into an informative and easy to read book. I highly recommend it!

A Worthwhile Read

As a new hospice volunteer, I have received a lot of training but found your history more revealing than what I was given. I also appreciated your stories about your parents which reinforced the need to separate your roles as a daughter from a hospice nurse. I value your list of recommended readings and your willingness to share your personal takeaway from your life's work. My only recommendation is to add just one word to the first sentence in the last paragraph on page 210. To avoid confusion and for consistency's sake, I suggest that you add the wor"Medical" to the, "Durable Power of Attorney." Thanks for listening.

Caring for the Living and Dying

The writing style is like a friendly chat full of stories of the author's experiences loaded with good and wise advice. The material presented is from a lived experience, not dry medical descriptions. It covers living, preparing for dying, the dying journey, and grieving. Highly recommended - written for those who care for the sick and dying, those going through this process, and for their families and caregivers.

What it's like to die

I learned the different stages prior to death and that starving is a good way to go as you just fall asleep and don't wake up.

The Final Act of Living

I found this book to be excellent. It is a very comprehensive discussion of all aspects of the end of life process. It would make an excellent training text for the various professionals in the field, and for the various volunteers such as myself. It would also be and excellent reference for the family, friends and caretakers of a patient and for all of us who will likely be facing these issues ourselves eventually. - A real "Must Read!"
